Wen 妏
Mediums: Typography, 3D Visualisation & Bookbinding
Wen妏 is an experimental Chinese typography that reimagines the Chinese language through the softness of fabric and the hands of women. While the earliest Chinese script, Jiaguwen, was inscribed on turtle shells and bones within a patriarchal framework, Wen妏 emerges instead from spaces of care, resilience and speculation.
Developed through 3D fabric simulation, the Wen妏 script echoes how Jiaguwen was birthed from cracks in shells: one from fracture, the other from folds. This shift symbolises the displacement experienced by diasporic Chinese women, giving their loss a close approximation.
Wen妏 weaves together embodied knowledge and speculative design to render what was historically overlooked and what might still become. If Jiaguwen, born to foresee the future, now lies behind us in the past. My language of the future will one day follow, a fleeting turn of the wheel—ephemeral yet resonant.
